Alexandra: d’avocate à entrepreneuse qui aide les expats à faire des économies

Mardi dernier, j’ai rendez-vous dans une magnifique verrière d’un château de l’ouest parisien pour un café avec des entrepreneuses du réseau femmepreneur. J’y ai croisé Alexandra, une jeune femme dynamique, souriante, présidente de femmepreneur. Avocate, elle a décidé de faire une transition de carrière pour se mettre à son compte. Elle  travaille maintenant avec les expatriés qui veulent transférer leurs devises. Elle leur permet de bénéficier d’un taux de change compétitif et sans commission ce qui les conduit à réaliser des économies substantielles par rapport à ce que leur banque leur aurait proposé. J’ai eu envie d’en savoir davantage sur son parcours.

 

Alexandra, raconte-moi ton parcours en quelque mots.

I am French with an American history. I was born and raised in France but took my first 5-week trip to Washington state when I was 13 to improve my english thanks to a nice hosting family. Since then, about every two years, I spent a summer in the States. I took a short program at UCLA, Irvine Extension in Global Operations Management and did internships in a law firm in Boston & New York. I have a law degree specialized in Mergers & Acquisitions. I worked as an attorney in Paris.

Pourquoi as-tu voulu changer de carrière? 

Long crazy hours at the office 24/7 were not compatible with what I thought I wanted to be a family life.

Qu’est-ce qui t’a aidé à choisir une autre voie? 

I wanted to see my boys. Could not stand thinking of them being brought up by a stranger and missing their tender years.

Que fais-tu maintenant? 

I am the regional coordinator Paris Ile de France for Currencies Direct. It is basically a public relation job in a business development way. I love it!

Currencies Direct provide Foreign Exchange services. My clients save up to 5% on their money transfers (whether be a regular 200€ transfer or a one time real estate purchase, for instance). The company is British and was created 20 years ago in London.

We work from bank account to bank account which makes our transactions secure, reliable and traceable.

My clients are private clients (for example, with children abroad) or corporate clients (for example, with suppliers abroad).

My partners are real estate agents, notaires, lawyers, relocation companies who « sell » my service to their own international clients as an added value.

Qu’est-ce que tu aimes particulièrement dans ton métier d’entrepreneuse? 

I love it because not only I can spend time with my boys but especially this service does not exist in France. Therefore there is no competitor (for now), I have to do everything from scratch. It takes a while to built up but it is very challenging and I do learn every day.

Tu aides les expatriés à faire des économies. Que proposes-tu exactement?  

They save up to 5% when they transfer their money back home or from home to wherever they will settle for a bit; plus we don’t charge our client with a commission.

Quels conseils tu pourrais donner à des femmes sur le point de changer de carrière? 

What matters the most to you? what are your priorities? life is short, make it yours! and forget about what people think.
